Linda is very proud that she found the Shack Up Inn, which has been our headquarters while we explore Clarksdale and Greenville, Mississippi. The other choices, the Riverview Hotel and a Motel 8, were a little too authentic and too generic, respectively.
We are installed in the Sky Shack, which sits atop the ‘lobby’ of the Shack Up and provides a sitting and work/dining area as well as a bedroom. The room is made completely of recycled doors, planks, corrugated tin, copper sheet and who knows what else, and the furnishings are 100% Salvation Army rejects.
Linda has been writing copy, phone-conferencing and endlessly checking her Blackberry as we’ve made our way through the Delta, and the Sky Shack, with a very strong WiFi signal despite being in a corrugated tin building, has been a good office for us as well as her. Our hosts and their crew are currently renovating some new sharecropper shacks, trucked in from other plantations…
