So yesterday, we reported that a reader was turned off by my Wednesday post, wondering why I even bothered to write such empty, if brief, drivel. It occurred to me then, and has been bothering me since, that by writing, I actually might be driving down the number of visitors to this blog.
Sure enough, looking at today’s logs, there has been a precipitous drop in our page views today. When you have four readers, and one of them gets miffed, be prepared for at least a 25% decline in traffic. Another way of viewing this would be that not writing would have resulted in 25% more hits.
God knows this isn’t news: our screeds have clearly driven thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands away from this site compared to its salad days (back when, admittedly, there weren’t many places to go on the web that didn’t require a Ph.D. in one or another rather deep discipline).
So, ever eager for that hint of how to monetize our ragged site, we’ve decided that writing nothing is the key. Doing a correlation of the above-noted data in Google Analytics, I see that, as gulker.com content goes toward zero, traffic should trend toward infinity, soon eclipsing even Google itself.
Hence this is not a post. There will be no further content of any kind, even though we will continue to post daily, lest we suffer “loyalty decline.” It’s just that we we will post nothing daily…

I missed that one. So if it was NO entry, I would not have missed it, and would have had no reason to make this comment. Where do you go with this one?
I guess that would make you the blog equivalent of TV’s Seinfeld, which purported to be a show about Nothing.
You could not even hope to have driven away as many readers through the years as I have. I aim to please.
Don’t you know the best way to stimulate the economy is by going out of business? What better way to get the stock market back above 10,000 & unlimited 0% interest government subsidized mortgages than by laying off everyone & stopping all blogging of any kind. If the zero post GULK went public the stock market would surely hit 50,000.
Hello there CG. Go back and read the stats for December so far. I just went back to find out what all the non-excitement and non-dismay was about. (I had missed a few so they should be up again now.)
Well, Harrumph!
As one of your 4 loyal readers, I non-demand that you keep on with your non-blogging, because I enjoy non-reading them. They are always filled with interesting non-things. (Notice I did NOT say “non-interesting” non-things… :-] )
I see you have been blogging since the beginning of time… blog-time anyway. That’s so cool. Keep it up Man. You have Walter and Me back here in the East waiting each day. If you don’t, we’ll lose track of time and our calendars will go out of non-date.
Do you count the folks like me that only read the RSS feed most of the time?
Do you count the folks like me that only read the RSS feed most of the time? because then you would have 5 readers.
Yes, Chris, you are not a post.
