Cees Van Halderen and and Sue Nixon are partners and one-time engineers who both decided to exit the rat race of gainful corporate employment for something really different. Cees (pronounced ‘Case’) found his decision hastened by the bankruptcy of the firm that employed him, and Sue was not far behind.
Now the couple inhabit La Tuilerie, a former brick and tile works in Chazelle, a small hamlet on the River Grosne on the outskirts of Cormatin, itself a small country town. The couple had been using vacations to find a place that appealed to them, and the charms of Chazelle and environs won them over.
Both are bloggers: Cees loves the politics and personalities of the tiny villages hereabouts, while Sue diligently casts light on local history and tradition. Both blog in support of their new enterprise which revolves around two gites, or vacation guest houses, which they have built into their large, well-kept property here. They also allow camping on a part of their grounds, and offer a service to help others find second homes in the area.
Cees reports that business is good: the gites are booked for all but a couple weeks this year. Cormatin may not have 3000 souls, yet it has least two bloggers and we hear tell of a possible third…
