Formatting: I think I liked the old gulker.com fomat wher the heading was a date, and I could tuck a bunch of smaller or larger posts underneath it. Writing a headline for each post seems to hog more space somehow - anyway, here’s a trial run…

Our new patio has just been glorious the past couple […]

Back at it

We have had a pretty amazing week, if only because we found we had the stamina to do it all. Back-to-back birthday dinners, dinner with former startup colleague and friend Brad Giles, a day at UCSF working on strength, coordination and forging new neuronal connections (and, oh yeah, chemo), a solo trip to Los Angeles […]

Dotcom Garden’s last hurrah

These are the last tomatoes that we’ll harvest from Dotcom Garden this year - the plants are pretty much dead, and we took a couple dozen ripe and nearly-ripe tomatoes off the vines yesterday. This afternoon I’ll start simmering a tomato reduction that will be part of dinner tonight (along with grilled Chilean Sea […]

Patio progress

The patio continues to progress: the concrete underlay for the bricks is in and bricklaying has started. We have a new garage door and I’m already thinking about Garden 2.0 which will be using very ‘green’ materials and irrigation. We may need to start a home page for Garden 2.0… Dotcom Garden has one…

Dotcom garden’s penultimate harvest?

So here’s what Dotcom Garden had to offer yesterday afternoon: the beans and cucumbers are pretty much fini, as are the eggplant and most of the basil. A few clusters of still-ripening tomatoes remain, so we may get one last batch.
These tomatoes are so sweet, that it was hard to do a Greek salad last […]

100 in the garden today

Warm day here on the Peninsula… weather service predicted a high of 86, but Dotcom Garden, unshaded and in a confined reflecting space, was showing 100 degrees on its thermometer when I went out to water mid-afternoon. It’s a spare-the-air day: I was good, and worked from home…

Sunday in the garden

While Linda and Cassie went on their Sunday constitutional, I returned to Dotcom Garden, and spent another very pleasant morning watering, sipping coffee and just sharing the space with the dragonflies, bees and other pollinators.
I’m already envisioning a winding path and a new placement for the planters - I think we can squeeze in one […]

Breakfast

We spent about a half-hour in Dotcom Garden this morning, first harvesting tomatoes, lemon cucumbers and herbs, then watering, then sitting and drinking fresh, hot, Peet’s coffee from a mini-thermos. Pretty good morning.
Cassie patrolled the paths between the planters while I went about my chores. I’m amazed the planter boxes, made of 2×12 redwood planks […]

Garden 2.0

An anonymous reader left a comment that I should call the new garden web 2.0 garden, and move on from ‘Dotcom.’ That’s probably a good idea: above is a scan of photo of a kitchen garden that graces the headquarters of Sunset Magazine, which just happens to be located here in Menlo Park.
I really like […]

Dotcom Garden’s last hurrah

Dotcom Garden has just been a joy this year: I wish I’d had more time to spend enjoying it. It’s just been one small corner of my life that is relatively ordered, stress-free and pleasant.
Now that our patio re-do is underway, however, we won’t be replanting or otherwise working on Dotcom Garden. Once the patio’s […]
